Buffalo Creek, 1 May 1999

About 15 enthusiasts turned out in the bitterly cold (18 degrees or so) weather and had quite a fine time. The waders turned up late, just as we were about to give up. There were perhaps 1200 in total, mostly Great and Red Knots, Greater Sand Plovers and Bar-tailed Godwits. A few surprises (swifts, pratincole) added some extra interest.
Most of the waders that were there would likely overwinter, since they were all (except a couple of Red Knots) in non-breeding plumage.
